Jonathan (Jonty) Rougier's first degree and PhD were in Economics, but he has worked on uncertainty assessment for complex systems since the mid-1990s, initially at Durham with Michael Goldstein, Peter Craig, Allan Seheult, and David Wooff, and more recently at Bristol (since 2007).

His main interests are the challenges of large problems -- slow and expensive simulators, large structural uncertainties, and large collections of outputs.  His main theoretical contributions are in multivariate emulation, and representing simulator limitations.  His applications are primarily in Environmental Science, notably climate (prediction, reconstruction, and model calibration), but also, more recently, uncertainty and risk assessment for natural hazards.
